SureFire® E2T-MV Tactician
EDCLB Upgrades
One of our favorite SureFire® lights is the E2T-MV Tactician. At just five inches long, one inch wide at the bezel and weighing only 3.5 ounces with batteries, the E2T-MV is compact, lightweight and carries comfortably in a pants pocket. But by far what makes this a favorite is the bezel switch that allows “pre-selection” of high or low output before turning the light on. It’s a simple yet reliable interface that works perfectly without the hassle of toggling through modes with a switch or having to deal with a programmable interface.
The SureFire® MaxVision Beam® is best described as a smooth, low-candela flood beam. A flood beam is not in our opinion ideal for serious defensive use, but the Tactician's LED emits clean white light, making it useful for a variety of EDC tasks. Though we prefer a higher-candela beam profile for situational awareness and self-defense purposes, overall the E2T-MV certainly more than lives up to its “Tactician” designation. * The following upgrade accessories are removable and allow the flashlight to be reverted back to its factory configuration.
- Tailcap Upgrade
- The E2T-MV comes from SureFire® with a “twisty” tailcap based on the Z52 design. This tailcap is optimized for momentary operation, which is a priority for any light being used for “tactical” applications such situational awareness or self-defense. But there are several downsides to this design;
- The switch consists of an aluminum plunger that when the switch is pressed makes contact with the rear edge of the body to complete the electrical circuit. Though this design is extremely robust, the aluminum is prone to oxidation on the contact surface, which can cause the light to flicker without a very firm press. This grows worse over time and due to the plunger being retained in the tailcap body with a rivet, the contact surface of the plunger is extremely difficult to reach and clean.
- Due to the “twisty” design, the tailcap must be turned and tightened against the body for constant-on operation. This will generally require two hands to accomplish. While this is ideal for a light intended for self defense, it’s less than ideal for more general purpose applications - especially for a light that features a low output “administrative” mode with greatly extended run time.
EDCLB offers the Lumens Factory E2T tailcap that uses the ultra-reliable, industry-standard McClicky switch. This allows the light to be placed into constant-on operation without the need to turn the tailcap. The McClicky switch is bedded directly into the tailcap body to ensure consistent feel and operation.
These tailcaps are available with the standard soft-press boot or with an optional low profile medium press boot for enhanced momentary operation. The soft press boot provides ease of switch activation and works well with the Grip Ring Kit (see below). The medium press boot requires a deep deliberate press with the tip of the thumb to latch constant-on as shown in the photos below. It works well with the "ice pick" grip and helps reduce accidental light activation when carried in a pocket;
Note: These tailcaps are also compatible with most other E-series flashlights, but will make dual output "gas pedal" models high output only.
Pocket Clip Upgrade
- From SureFire® the E2T-MV comes with a body-mounted pocket clip for carrying the light bezel-up. There are some common complaints with this pocket clip;
- The clip is not a “deep pocket carry” design - the entire head assembly rides exposed above the pocket
- For pocket carry, most prefer a bezel down design that better protects the head and helps prevent accidental activation
The EDCLB-modified Lumens Factory E2T tailcaps feature a bezel-down deep carry pocket clip. The entire light rides inside the pocket for better concealment and less chance of the light being accidentally dislodged. They are available in three versions;
- Deep Carry Pocket Clip
- Lanyard loop with Finger Ring
- Both pocket clip and lanyard loop with finger ring
Lanyard loop with Finger Ring option shown in photo. Lanyard loop can also accept the EDCLB Fist Bungee, Universal Custom Lanyard and Custom Wrist Lanyard. Shop the EDCLB E2T Tailcaps
Factory Clip Filler Stud
When the factory supplied pocket clip is removed, it leaves behind an empty machined recess in the body. EDCLB offers the Lumens Factory filler studs that fill the recess to protect the slot and improve aesthetics, perfectly matching the contours of the body. The filler studs are available as a set that includes a plain stud and a stud with a recess to accept a 1.5 x 6mm tritium vial. As an option, EDCLB installs a green tritium vial that makes the flashlight easy to locate in a dark setting. The tritium vial version is especially useful for a light that sees nightstand duty. Note: Filler studs compatible with the E2T-MV Tactician only! Shop the EDCLB Filler Stud Set
Grip Ring Kit
- SureFire® is reknown for their line of CombatLight® flashlights that are optimized for use with the Rogers-Surefire Technique. The line includes the G2Z-MAXVISION model which uses the same 800 lumen LED engine as the Tactician, but without the dual output capability. With the addition of the EDCLB Grip Ring Kit, the Tactican can be made into a combat light style flashlight and used effectively in the same manner. When used in conjunction with the EDCLB E2T tailcap, soft press boot provides best results. Shop the EDCLB Grip Ring Kit
